Successive number: 012/KK PLACE: Nesseltal EVENT: DATE: between 1920 - 1930 ANNOUNCE: Die HeiMAT Koprivnik … a beautiful village this used to be. 2006. PUBLISHER: - PHOTOGRAPHER: unknown NOTES: photo postcard
The author of the postcard and the date of its publication are unknown. It was probably published in the first decade of the previous century, but lets not burden ourselves with the date. When we look at it we can see that the top part of the village, called Nakl, stands out. Here is the rural pond or ‘kal’, which served as a watering hole for the livestock. The villagers probably incorporated the old Slovenian name ‘kal’ into the German vocabulary. When asked: “Where are you going?” they would answer: “Nach kal”. In 1942 the Italian occupators burnt down this part of the village, a fact still made obvious by ruins, encircled the rest with barbed wire and secured the village with bunkers.
